Paraphrase the introduction
Use the same principles that we’ve already discussed. So for example
nitrogen sources (noun form) = where nitrogen originates/comes from (verb form)
concentration levels (noun forms) = where nitrogen is concentrated (passive verb form)
groundwater – difficult to find a synonym. ‘The water table‘ shows you’ve tried!
a coastal city = a town/city near the coast/sea

The diagram is usually labelled with a significant number of words that of course you will need to use in your description. There is no point trying to find synonyms for many of these words – you will just have to use them as they are, especially if you are not quite sure what they mean! Overall, it can be seen that the process by which glass is recycled is a multistep, cyclical process which consists of three main stages: collection, processing and distribution.
In the first stage, customers place used bottles in collection bins, and the bottles are collected by large trucks.
In Stage 2, the bottles are taken to a cleaning plant, where they are cleaned with high-pressurised water. They are then separated according to colour (green, brown or clear), and taken to a glass factory, where they are crushed into pieces. The pieces are melted in a furnace and the resulting liquid, together with new liquid glass, is poured into a bottle mould.
In the third and final stage, the new bottles are filled and packed, and then sent to supermarkets, where the customers buy them and the process begins again.

One problem many people have is that they just put the linking words at the start of the sentence. This can sound repetitive, and it is important not to OVERUSE linking words.
· Don’t choose a different linking word for the start of every sentence. Use some in the middle
e.g. the process by which leather is treated, the liquid in which the skins are soaked, the place where the skins are flattened.
Compare these two versions:
Version 1: simple, accurate but a little ‘mechanical’
The skin is dried. Then it is taken to a factory. In the factory it is washed in water and lime, then soaked in lime and flattened and submerged in tannin. After that it is polished and taken to another factory. In the factory it is turned into leather goods.
